The new professorship adds ownership as an integral part of academic research and teaching, strengthens Finnish ownership expertise and the culture of ownership, and produces high-quality research data to support societal discussion and decision-making.
“This is an excellent decision that makes Finnish ownership a more integral part of academic research, teaching and decision-making”, says Piia-Noora Kauppi, managing director at Finance Finland.
The professorship is extremely important also in the opinion of Ilkka Niemelä, the president of Aalto University.
“Ownership plays an important role in employment, tax and export revenue and the well-being of society as a whole. That's why it's wonderful that Finland will have the first professorship focusing on research and teaching in this field”, Niemelä states in the Aalto University press release.
The professorship helps to create a positive operating environment for ownership and investment. One aspect of this is steady regulation and taxation without sudden and contradictory changes. Investment is long-term activity, and uncertainty can slow down its growth.
Interest in responsible investing is a growing megatrend and should be closely connected to research and teaching of ownership.
”Ownership is one of the most important building blocks of employment and economic growth. It is important that ordinary citizens have opportunities to gain wealth and be actively involved in companies through ownership”, Kauppi concludes.
