At Finance Finland, I am responsible for issues related to the digital euro, a new digital means of payment being developed by the European Central Bank (ECB) to complement cash. At the moment, the introduction of the digital euro looks very likely, with issuance currently expected in 2029. A key part of my work is helping to ensure that the solution is practical, secure and economically sustainable for the financial sector, while safeguarding the stability of the banking system and banks’ operating conditions.

What’s something valuable you’ve learned during your career?

One of the most important lessons I have learned is the value of staying curious about issues beyond my own area of responsibility. Curiosity broadens expertise, brings new perspectives and often opens the door to new and interesting opportunities. Working on the digital euro offers a unique opportunity to contribute to, witness and experience the development and introduction of a new means of payment.
