Lobbying is part of pluralistic democracy. A skilled decision-maker listens to the viewpoints of multiple interest and expert groups before making a decision.
When legislation is being drafted, it is important to assess its impact on the people and sectors in the scope of the legislation. All of this requires open dialogue.
Finance Finland is committed to following the recommendations for good lobbying practice prepared by the Advisory Board for the Finnish Transparency Register.
Our lobbying is guided by the following principles:
1
We openly disclose who we represent and what our objectives are.
2
We form our opinions and positions in our role as a representative of the financial sector.
3
We prepare our positions carefully in close co-operation with out members and act at the right time.
4
We disclose all relevant viewpoints related to the matter at hand, including those that diverge from our own.
5
We ensure that our messages are understood correctly.
6
We do not offer or accept any gifts that could influence our own decision-making or that of the recipient.
7
In matters of hospitality, we act in accordance with commonly observed and reasonable practices.
We are committed to promoting transparent, responsible and reliable lobbying as well as to supporting many-sided social dialogue between decision-makers and interest groups.
We report our national-level lobbying activities to the Finnish Transparency Register. The online service allows anyone to view what subjects we have lobbied and the targets of our lobbying, such as members of parliament, ministers, state secretaries, special advisers and ministry officials. Even before the launch of the statutory register, we voluntarily published an annual report of our lobbying activities on our website.
Finance Finland is also a long-time member in the EU Transparency Register.
